There are 20 Dell PCs for use in the ICon Lab. The portable PCs are located in the locked closet behind the main screens. They are configured so that you can easily integrate them with the different display screens including the 3 screens along with the SMART Board. The communication with the display screens is through the use of UltraVNC.

When you log into a laptop PC (using your ITS login information), you will see VNC icons on the desktop for linking to the three screens and the SMART Board. If you double click on one of the VNC 1, 2 or 3 icons, your image will be pushed to the VNC laptop render node and displayed on the associated VNC machine. To see it on the screens, make sure that you have selected the VNC machine for display (select VNC 1, 2 or 3 on the Switching tab on the Touch Panel).

The laptop PCs have the following software tailored to the portable use (in addition to many other applications):
  • Ubiquitous Presenter
  • PowerPoint Whiteboard - A simple PowerPoint template to use as a white board on the Tablet PC
  • [http://ultravnc.sourceforge.net/ UltraVNC] - Screen sharing application which allows the Tablet PC to push the screen to any of the 3 large displays
  • OneNote - For note taking or general drawing on the tablet, also allows for importing files for markup
  • [http://sketchup.google.com/ Sketch Up] - A 3D modeling application that is very tablet friendly
